Wembley Fire Today – Huge Blaze Near Wembley Stadium Brings 125 Firefighters to Scene
A major fire broke out at an industrial estate near Wembley Stadium in northwest London on Friday, August 28, 2026, sending a huge column of smoke into the sky and prompting a large emergency response.
The blaze started at a mixed waste facility on Hannah Close in Neasden. The London Fire Brigade said it received the first reports shortly after 11:30 a.m., with more than 70 calls made to its control room about the fire.
20 Fire Engines and 125 Firefighters Respond
Around 125 firefighters and 20 fire engines were dispatched to tackle the blaze. Crews from Wembley, Park Royal, Willesden and surrounding fire stations were among those sent to the scene.
Three of the brigade’s 32-metre aerial ladders were also deployed, alongside specialist firefighting equipment. The scale of the response reflects the size and intensity of the fire at the industrial site.
Huge amounts of smoke could be seen rising over northwest London, with reports indicating that the plume was visible from areas well beyond the immediate vicinity.
Residents Urged to Stay Indoors
Because of the heavy smoke, London Fire Brigade advised people living close to the incident to close their doors and windows and remain indoors where possible.
Members of the public were also urged to avoid the area while emergency crews continued working to bring the fire under control.
The North London Waste Authority confirmed that the fire occurred at its Wembley transfer station and said all LondonEnergy employees were safe, with no injuries reported among its staff.
Tube and Rail Services Disrupted
The fire has also caused significant disruption to public transportation around Wembley.
The Metropolitan line was suspended, while the Jubilee line experienced severe disruption, including no service between Willesden Green and Wembley Park at the time of the reports. Rail services operating in and out of London Marylebone were also affected by delays and cancellations.
Transport authorities advised passengers to check for updates and consider alternative routes while emergency operations continued.
Cause of Wembley Fire Not Yet Known
The cause of the fire has not yet been established. Some reports mentioned witnesses hearing what sounded like an explosion, but authorities have not confirmed what caused the blaze.
Firefighters remain focused on containing the fire and preventing it from spreading while investigators work to determine how it started.
At this stage, there have been no reported injuries among LondonEnergy employees, according to the North London Waste Authority.
